BEDFORDSHIRE And the Situation of Bedford described with the armes of thos Honorable Familyes that have borne ye titles of Dukes and Earls thereof

A good early engraved map of the county published by George Humble. Inset town plan of Bedford from which are suspended three coats of arms. Strapwork title cartouche with the royal arms and two others. 20 x 15 inches. Uncoloured. This is an unusual specimen of this map in that it is plain on the verso and has the text that one would expect to find on the verso most editions of the map printed on four pieces of paper which have been glued down to the back of the map. It is not the normal printing of the text but bears the following imprint - Imprinted at London by John Dawson for George Humble, are are to be sole in Popes head Palace 1627. I have dated the map 1646 as it has just been taken from a Speed atlas dated 1646. A little light water staining in the blank margins but otherwise in nice condition.
