A 16th century woodcut bird’s eye view map of the town. Coat of arms supported by two angels. 13 3/4 x 10 1/4 inches. Uncoloured. German text on verso. Very small binding hole in the bottom blank margin othersie good conditon.

A clearly engraved map of the country bearing the imprint August 15th 1842. Publishers rococo cartouche inscribed Cruchley’s Improved Atlas, for Schools & Families. 17 1/4 x 13 3/4 inches. Original outline and wash hand colouring. Small nick in blank margin at the bottom of the centre fold and small brown mark near the top of the centre fold.

A large engraved map showing the southern part of the course of the river Rhine including the cantons of Switzerland with lakes Geneva and Constance. Decorative title cartouche dated 1690 with putti and coat of arms. 23 1/2 x 17 3/4 inches. Uncoloured. Small tear in the top blank margin otherwise good clean condition. Centre fold as published.

SWITZERLAND
A map of the whole of Switzerland with title and three scales. Set within a decorative border. 11 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches. A little light foxiging in the top and bottom blank margins. I regret I am unable to put a cartographer’s name to this map. It is very similar to the map by Thomas Cowperthwait published in 1852 which bears his inscription. This map has no imprint and the borders are of a different design

CARTE ANCIENNE DE; LA SUISSE AVEC DES REMARQUES ABREGEES SUR LES DIVERS EVENEMENS ET REVOLUTIONS QUI Y SONT
An engraved map of Switzerland in ancient times bounded by panels of text on the left and right hand side of French descriptive text. Beneath the map are six engravings of scenes in the life of William Tell. One shows William Tell refusing to bow to a hate places on the top of a pole by a Habsburg bailiff. There is the image of William Tell being forced to shoot with a crossbow at an apple placed on the head of his son. Tell managing to escape from Gessler’s boat on Lake Lucerne as the crew attack him in the water. And finally the Tell’s ambush which led to the assassination of the bailiff Gessler. In all the image measures 17 1/2 x 13 1/2 inches, 445 x 340 mm. Uncoloured. Original centre fold. Good clean condition.
