A fine decorative 17th century map of the county published by Thomas Bassett and Richard Chiswell. Inset views on Richmont and Nonsuch Palaces. Cartouches, compass rose and seven coats of arms. List of towns and villages with a description of the county on verso. 20 x 15 inches. Uncoloured. Two areas of matching very light water staining on left and right, otherwise fine clean condition.

A MAP OF SURREY S. W. FROM LONDON

A delightful small engraved map of the county with scale and compass rose. To the left of the map is a panel providing information on Members of Parliament and listing the major towns with the Market and Fair Days. 5 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches. Uncoloured. The early edition of this map with the publisher’s imprint beneath dated 1741 with the names of Thomas Badeslade the surveyor and W. H. Toms the engraver. Nice good clean condition.

It is interesting to note that the atlas was intended for the use of his Majesty King George I for his intended tour through England and Wales. He died on June 11th, 1727. The dedication is to Frederick Prince of Wales, son of George II born February 1st, 1707 and who died on March 31st, 1751 at Kew.

A fine detailed 18th century map of the county. The uncoloured pictorial title cartouche bears the names of Thomas Bowen and Emanuel Bowen. Interesting engraved notes around the map including a list of the Earls and Dukes of Surrey. Imprint beneath reads Printed for T. Bowles in St. Paul’s Church Yard, J. Bowles & Son, and Messrs. Bakewell & Parker in Cornhill, H. Overton without Newgate, T. Kitchin on Holborn ill, R. Sayer & J. Ryal in Fleetstreet. 19 1/2 x 16 inches. Original outline hand colouring. Good condition.

Straight from the atlas and not previously sold as a single map. The title page of the atlas is dated 1627

ORIGINAL BROADSIDE

A Reward of £25 per cent Will be paidon whatever may be recovered of the Following Property. Mary TOPLIS, late of Guildford, in Surrey, Shopkeeper, but now a Prisioner in Horsemonger Lane, Borough where she is committed by the Insolvent Court, for Defraudfing her Creditors, by taking away her Goods by Night, on or about 29th of September, 1824; of which she would give no other account than that they were delivered by her to a Waggoner passing through Guildford, and delivered to an Inn or Public House, at Kingston; and though she acknowledges she knew where to apply for them, she knows neither the Sign of the House, or the Names of any other Parties.

The Creditors being fully determined to prosecute her and all those that have been connected with her, offer a Reward of One Fourth part of the Property that may be recovered, in order to induce the Waggoner who took away these Goods to come forward, or the Landlord at Kingston, who received the same, that the Property may be traced, and the Parties brought to Punishment. By Orde of the Creditors of the said Insolvent. John Marshall, Assignee, No. 36 Friday Street, London. 5th May, 1825

A MAP OF SURREY FROM THE BEST AUTHORITIES

A good detailed map of the county with publisher’s imprint dated 1805. 18 3/4 x 15 1/2 inches. Tear in top blank margin which extends one inch into map area otherwise good clean condition with wide blank margins. Originally bound on edge so there is no centre fold but there is a light fold crease up the centre of the map. Otherwise good condition. Later hand colouring. Colouring might be a bit bright for some.
