A fine 17th century map of the region. The title is displayed within a decorative cartouche whilst the scale appears within a second cartouche with figure of a surveyor and putti. The dedication is shown in a third cartouche surmounted by a large coat of arms. The map bears an attribution to Timothy Pont whose surveys were used by the Blaeu family to produce the first printed county atlas of Scotland. 22 x 16 1/2 inches. Early hand colouring. Spanish text on verso. Lightly browned all over but fine condition.

A little very light foxing but other than that good condition.

A double sided road map. One side shows the final part f the journey from London to Edinburgh. Starting after you have gone through Moffat and on to Linton and Edinburgh and Leith. Good detail with inns and the names of the owners of houses. The other side shows part of the road from London to Scarborough by Lincoln. Starts at Stilton and then passes through Peterborough, Market Deeping, Bourn and onto Fokingham. Each 3 1/4 x 6 inches. The name of Carington Bowles and the date of 1785 appears beneath each map. Hand coloured. Fine condition.
