A NEW MAP OF ESSEX DRAWN FROM THE BEST AUTHORITIES BY THOS. KITCHIN GEOGR. An engraved map of the county embellished with a rococo style cartouche. Compass pointer and scale. 10 x 7 1/2 inches. Uncoloured. Two small ink stains in the Suffolk area, two others in the bottom blank margin and a single ink stain on Billericay. Original centre fold. Uncoloured. This map has come straight from the atlas and therefore not previously been sold as a single map.

ESSEX & KENT

A miniature engraved map by Adrien Migneret of the two counties within a pictorial border. 2 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches. Original outline hand colouring. Vertical crease on the left of the map. Traces of two pieces of white tape on verso probably used to hold the map into a mount at some time. Otherwise good condition.

LANGLEY’S NEW MAP OF ESSEX

An engraved map of the county of Essex. In the bottom right hand corner is a vignette view of Colchester Castle. The title appears above the map. Beneath the map is the publishers imprint Printed and Published by Langley & Belch, No. 173 High Street, Borough, London, June 1st, 1817. 10 x 6 3/4 inches. Manuscript number 12 in the top right hand corner. Original outline and wash hand colouring. Some light soiling with a little speckled foxing mainly in blank margins. No tears or repairs.

ESSEX

An uncommon lithograph miniature map of the county surrounded by a wide border of vignette views of local scenes including Farming and Fishing. The maps first appeared in Miller’s New Miniature Atlas published in 1810. The decorative views were added and the maps republished by Darton & Clark in “Reuben Ramble’s Travels Through the Counties of England” in 1844. 7 1/4 x 5 3/4 inches. This is the size of overall area and not the contained map. Original hand colouring. With this map is the original double sided page of text describing the county.

Original hand colouring. Publishers imprint dated 1794 beneath. Lightly toned. Small area of soiling near the bottom of the map, very small bottom blank margin, bottom right hand corner of blank margin missing.

A NEW MAP OF ESSEX, DIVIDED INTO HUNDREDS... BY JOHN CARY, ENGRAVER 1801

A detailed map of the county. Oval title panel and scale. 21 x 19 inches. Original outline and wash colouring. The general condition of this map is good but it is going to look a lot better with some care and when it is framed. There are many short tears in the top blank margin but none of them actually go as far as the printed border. Priced about a quarter of what I would be asking for a fine specimen.

AN ACCURATE MAP OF THE COUNTY OF ESSEX DIVIDED INTO ITS HUNDREDS ......

A good large detailed 18th century map of the county embellished with a large uncoloured pictorial cartouche showing a farmer leading two calves. A rococo cartouche displays the dedication to Benjamin Mildmay Earl Fitzwalter. Around the map are the usual engraved historical notes. Beneath the map is the publishers imprint mentioning John Bowles, Carington Bowles, Carington Bowles and Robert Sayer. 28 x 20 inches. Original outline hand colouring. Small soiling mark running from the bottom of the barrels in the cartouche to the rococo dedication cartouche. There are signs on verso that the map has at some time been folded horizontally but I have been able to flatten the map out so this is not visuble from the front. Split at the bottom of the centre fold repaired. Otherwise clean condition.

An interesting clearly engraved and detailed map of these three hundreds in the county of Essex which very rarely comes into stock. The title is displayed within a rococo cartouche. Engraving of an early British coin affirmed to be Boadicea’s in the top left area. 18 3/4 x 11 1/2 inches. Uncoloured. Original fold creases with some light some additiona very light creasing near to one. No blank margins. Otherwis e good condition.
