INFORMATION ABOUT ME AND MY WEBSITE

Richard Nicholson and Nelson

This introduction I hope will give you a bit of information about myself. I started collecting and selling antique maps in the early 1960's. Some visitors to Chester may remember my shop in Watergate Street which was there for 30 years before closing in 1998. The business is now entirely on the internet and I attempt to offer an efficient and personal service to customers.

I registered www.antiquemaps.com in November 1996 and built my own web site. This has changed a lot over the years and the version you are now looking at had a major redo starting in November 2020 which took up until the end of the year. I must admit that I quite enjoy trying to improve the site. The website world never seems to stand still fvor very long and another big update is in progress in the first hald of 2023. I also built a website for the village of Christleton where I have lived since 1977. This has grown a lot since I started it in 2000. You can find the link here

Finding your way around the web site I hope will come naturally with a pull down menu appearing at the top of off the pages. If you want to see the structure of the web site have a look at the site map. Building a web site has come a long way since the 1990's and as most users now have a broadband connection it is possible to include large photographs of the maps. There is a search facility near the top of most pages which might help you find the map or print you are looking for. All the maps I offer are genuine early specimens published in or around the year indicated. Each map comes with a printed guarantee label. There is an area in the Print Section that includes some modern prints including a selection of Portraits of Britain at prices well below the current publisher's prices

How to order and pay is all set out on the Linked TextOrdering Page. Postage and Packing is now free to a UK address as long as the order value is in excess of fifteen pounds. There is an additional postage and packing charge for parcels sent to addresses outside of the UK.

Still in its infancy is a Guide to Collecting British Maps I am currently working on when time allows.
