William Pinnock was born in Hampshire being a bookseller in Alton before moving too Newbury in Berkshire. He was a Historian, topographer and schoolmaster. He later moved to London in 1817 to become a master printer.
His series of English county maps are so easy to recognise being from woodblocks cut to be showing white on black. They appeared in The Guide to Knowledge with engraved maps by Joshua Archer and Sidney Hall first appeared in 1833-34. There were many editions going up to about 1863.
