New Zealand is not the easiest of countries to collect early maps of

Collecting early maps of New Zealand is going to be quite a challenge. Your earliest examples you will maybe find for your collection are from from the latter half of the 17th century when th country will be just shown as a small single piece of coastline with a few names. A good reference on the internest is the Cartographic Collection on The National Library of New Zealand website

NEW ZEALAND

A map of the country set within a decorative border and embellished with uncoloured vignette views of Auckland, Wellington, Native and Mount Egmont from New Plymouth. 10 x 13 1/2 inches. Original outline hand colouring. This specimen of a popular map needs some restoration. The right hand border is trimmed. 2 1/2 inch tear across the top right hand corner repaired on verso, a few shorts short tears in the bottom blank margin repaired on verso. Otherwise the map is clean.
