GERHARD MERCATOR
Gerardus Mercator (1512–1594) was one of the most influential cartographers in history, best known for creating the Mercator Projection, a revolutionary map system that transformed navigation and global exploration. Born in what is now Belgium, Mercator combined scientific precision with artistic skill to produce maps, globes, and atlases that shaped how the world was understood for centuries.
