All the Maps on this Page are Guaranteed to be Genuine Early Specimens

A series of 100 strip Road Maps

of England and Wales published in 1719

Based on the earlier survey of the roads by John Ogilby each map measures about 10 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches and is made up of usually six panels with a central title panel and unlike other road maps of the period each map bears a dedication to a named person.

An untitled engraved chart of Leith embellished with a large inset prospect of Leith from the East. Decorative cartouche with figure bearing a dedication to the Rt. Hon. Sir James Fleming. Coat of Arms held by two putti. Two ships. Compass rose. 22 x 17 inches. Hand coloured. Some restoration is evident the top of the centre fold and to the bottom of the centre fold.

GLOCESTER SHIRE BY H. MOLL GEOGRAPHER. An engraved map of the county divided into lathes and hundreds. Title panel, scale and list of hundreds. Down the two sides of the maps are engravings of early British Coins. 12 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches. Original outline hand colouring.

CHESHIRE. A detailed engraved map of the county divided into hundreds. Uncoloured vignette view of Chester Cathedral. Explanation and list of hundreds. 14 x 9 inches, 360 x 228 mm. Original outline hand colouring. Good condition.

This map was framed some years ago in a black and gilt hogarth moulding. This is still in good condition but needs a little touching up on parts of the black area where the gilt has rubbed through.
30459 Cheshire, Thomas Moule, c.1837. Price: 38.00

CHESHIRE. A decorative Victorian map of the county within an architectural border. Embellished with vignette views of Chester Cathedral and Eaton Hall. Seven coats of arms. 10 x 7 inches, 255 x 190 mm. Uncoloured. Good condition. This is an early edition of the map with the imprint beneath the map Engraved for Moule’s English Counties by W. Schmollinger 27 Goswell Terrace.

THE COUNTY PALATINE OF CHESTER BY H. MOLL GEOGRAPHER. An engraved map of the county divided into hundreds. Title panel, scale, and list of hundreds. Down the two sides of the map are engravings of antiquities found in the county. 12 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches. Hand coloured. Good condition.

The map was framed some years ago probably in 1986 when I first sold it. The black and gilt frame is still in fair condition and just needs some of the black area touching up where the gilt is showing though. This map is only available to customers who can collect from Christleton.

FLINT-SHIRE. A small engraved map of the county embellished with an oval title panel. 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches. Beneath the map and on verso is a description of the county in English. Uncoloured. Good condition.

This map ws mounted in a green mount and framed with a hogarth black and gilt moulding with a glass back. This is still in nice condition. Only available to customers who can collect from Christleton.

From Supplement to Grose's Antiquities.

This map was framed some years ago in a dark green mountl mount and black and gilt hogarth moulding. The frame has a glass back. The frame is still in good condition. At present this map is only available to customers able to collect it from Christleton

The plate centres on Cirencester and includes Cheltenham, Gloucester, Lechlade, Malmsbury, Wotton Bassett, Calne, Chippenham, Marlborough and Devizes. 8 x 10 inches. Early hand colouring. Good condition.

This map was framed some years ago in a black and gilt hogarth moulding. This is still in good condition although the black area could do with touches to hide where the gilt has rubbed through. Only available to customers who can collect from Christleton.

About Me

My interest in antique maps was sparked by a map dealer named P. J. Radford who lived in Denmead near Portsmouth. He got me going and by 1961 I had started to buy and sell antique maps and prints. By the late 60's I had opened a shop in Watergate Street Chester. The shop closed in 1998 when the whole business was moved to the internet.
